Project type: End-of-terrace new build
John and Dory Merriman of Goodwood Living had a small site at the end of a run of Victorian terraces. Having already undertaken a laser survey of the existing building, our Sips Eco Panels frame was designed to accurately match up to the existing buildings and be delivered and erected very speedily. The external panels, roof, internal partitions, joists and even the flat roof to the rear were all designed and supplied by Sips Eco Panels’ to the Merriman’s architect’s original design.
Working from the Merrimans architect’s original drawings, our design team developed a complete SIPs frame package. The kit included:
The result was a precisely manufactured and quickly assembled structural system.
One of the standout features of this project was the decision to leave the ceilings exposed in the upstairs bedrooms. The vaulted ceilings, made possible by the structural strength and insulation of the SIPs roof panels, give the home a bright, spacious feel and add significant architectural interest – a key differentiator from more conventional builds nearby.
The superior thermal performance of the SIPs system also ensures that the home is energy-efficient and comfortable year-round, reducing ongoing energy costs and the building’s environmental footprint.
The design was for a 3 bed room property with an ensuite and a large Kitchen / Diner to the ground floor with separate Utility and Living Room to the front of the building. The build was attached from front to back to the existing dwelling including the single-storey flat roofed extension to the rear.
“Having now used Sips Eco Panels, we would not hesitate in recommending them to other developers or self-builders. Sips Eco are totally client focused and provided us with a service which was by far the best I’ve experienced in the 40 years I’ve worked in construction. By using a SIPs frame, we believe that it is possible to complete the frame erection, roofing, brickwork and windows in 5-6 weeks, once the groundworks are complete. The highly insulated warm roof allowed us to leave out the ceilings in the bedrooms, providing us with a vaulted ceiling giving our contemporary house a wow factor. This made us standout from other new-build houses in the area who all used traditional means of construction”
Encouraged by the success of this project, the Marrimans are now preparing for their next development. Planning permission is currently underway for a second build – and once again, they plan to specify SIPs Eco Panels for the full structural frame.
