The Story of the Robinson/Devlin Project

Angela Robinson & Ed Devlin wanted to build a stylish, eco-friendly and spacious open plan design house to over-look several acres of land, on the edge of a lovely Norfolk village.

They built the new home on an area of land in the garden which is adjacent to their listed farmhouse and on the boundary of a Conservation Area.

Our clients wanted a light filled, open plan house design that made the most of the course of the sun throughout the day, from shining in the kitchen in the morning, through the living area and into the garden room for the afternoon.

The Open Plan Design

The design of the house and its orientation on the site makes the most of the natural daylight.  Using SIPs aided this house to achieve code for sustainable homes level 4. Specifying SIP roof panels allows the clients to have a vaulted ceiling adding to the designs contemporary feel.  This along with features such as an en-suite and dressing room made for a modern and luxurious open plan family home.

The home’s mono-pitched covering has both functional and aesthetic benefits.  From the outside, the visual impact of the asymmetrical design adds to the contemporary appeal of the finished self-build.  The taller of the two pitches is angled towards the south – the perfect orientation for the home’s solar electric panels.  On the opposite side of the house, the vaulted ceiling works to filter early morning sunlight into the main living area.
